Alumni Spotlight - Brandon Snider

Brandon Snider, Class of 1995

After graduating MHS, I attended Coastal Carolina University where, in 1999, I graduated with a BA in Theatre. Shortly after, I moved to New York City to begin my acting career. The first few years were filled with learning experiences. I performed improv and sketch comedy. I joined the Collective NY theater company. I even co-wrote, co-directed, co-produced and starred in a series of one act plays, among other things. As an actor, I’ve appeared on Inside Amy Schumer, Bull, High Fidelity, The Deuce, Rachel Dratch’s Late Night Snack, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and Law & Order: SVU, as well as various commercials, plays and short films. I’m a proud member of SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild of America.

Over the years, my writing work grew as I developed my voice and I added published author to my resume. Notable works include the award-winning Dark Knight Manual as well as the Avengers: Infinity War: The Cosmic Questseries. I’ve written over 100 books featuring characters like Spider-Man and Black Panther, pop culture icons such as the Justice League, Star Wars, and The Muppets, as well as Cartoon Network favorites like Adventure Time and Regular Show. In recent years I’ve written the Audible original series Beezer and a variety of Mad Libs. My new middle grade novel series, Rube Goldberg and his Amazing Machines, reimagines the famous inventor as a neurotic, machine-making 6th grader finding his place in the world.

MHS was not always a welcoming place for a young LGBTQ+ kid like me. I received my fair share of bullying in both public and private. There were educators who sought to confront this kind of behavior and those that turned a blind eye. Thankfully I found acceptance in the theater. Being in the plays and musicals at MHS changed my life. With the support of teachers like Cathy Ransenberg, I never would have had the guts to attempt a career in the arts and entertainment field. I’m forever grateful for the MHS teachers who tackled prejudice in the community head on and continue to do so.
