    10. Our featured Career Theme for September is Medicine. If you’re interested in helping people and enjoy science, then you may want to consider a career in a medical field. There are many different medical careers, and here are a few you may want to consider:

If you like working with people, then you may want to be a Phlebotomist - a phlebotomist meets with patients to draw blood for tests, transfusions, research, or blood donations. You can typically enter this occupation after completing high school and a training program.

Are you interested in becoming a pharmacist? If so, you must have a Doctor of Pharmacy degree, which includes a 4-year professional degree after your bachelor’s degree, and passing required exams. Pharmacists work in many settings including hospitals, where they assist doctors in prescribing different medicines for their patients, research settings, and retail settings, where they answer questions for their customers regarding their medications.

Or maybe you are more interested in the science aspect of medicine instead of meeting with patients - if that sounds interesting to you, then you may want to consider a career as a Medical Scientist. They conduct research aimed at improving overall human health. Medical scientists typically have a Ph.D., usually in biology or a related life science. Some medical scientists get a medical degree instead of, or in addition to, a Ph.D.

There are numerous careers in the medical field - feel free to stop into the CCPC to investigate!

Also, please join us for this month’s career chat on September 30 during Warrior bell in room 26 (which is the computer classroom downstairs) where we’ll feature MHS graduate Kieran Phelan, who will share his journey regarding How to Become a Doctor. See Mrs. Leszczuk with any questions.

    1. Students, remember that you will register for courses for next year this afternoon. Please listen carefully:
Today during the Warrior bell time at 12:34, you will report to your 7th bell classroom with your 7th bell teacher. They will have your registration login information. Remember to come prepared to add your courses; you will not have time to think about what courses to take. You will only have time to add the courses into the computer system. If you have any questions, see your counselor. Even though seniors will not be registering for courses you are expected to report to your 7th bell class as well.

    2. Tuesday, February 11, 4th period, Florida Institute of Technology will be visiting. Students should report to the front office.

    3. Sources of Strength's campaign this quarter is positive friends. A positive friend is someone you can go to in times of trouble, when in need of advice, and for helpful encouragement. To explore this idea of positive friends and connections throughout the school, we are developing a volleyball tournament that will start Tuesday February 18th during Warrior Bell. If you are interested in participating for the tournament, contact Megan Kromer. Teams will consist of a student from each grade, a wild card, and a sources member. A QR code will be posted around the school; once scanned, complete the form by the 12th. Prizes will be awarded for participation and for winners!

    4. Are you interested in learning more about problems occurring in the world? Are you interested in being more active in your community? If so, you should join Mariemont Awareness and Activist Club. The first meeting will be Monday, February 10th during lunch in Mr. Weiss’s room. Vegan cookies will be provided.

    5. There's another MHS Library Makerspace Workshop after school this Friday 2/7 where we will continue working on making our own molds out of silicone and pouring resin into the molds for things like chess pieces and dice. See Blackboard for details.

    6. Attention all students who are signed up for College Explorations for Intersession. Your parents MUST attend an informational meeting in order for you to receive credit for Intersession. We encourage you to attend the meeting with your parents. All students enrolled in College Explorations MUST attend, even if you attended last year. The first meeting is Tuesday, February 11 at 6:30, the second meeting is on Thursday, February 13 and the final meeting is on Tuesday, February 18. All meetings will begin at 6:30 pm and will be held in the Library/Commons. If you have any questions, please see Mr. Sugerman.

    7. The Senior Class Blood Drive sponsored by Hoxworth is taking place on Thursday Feb. 20th. Students 16 years or older and parents can be a life saver! Donors can sign up at www.hoxworth.org/groups/warriors or See Mrs. Bell to make an appointment or to pick up permission forms. If you have already signed up, please see Mrs. Bell for your permission forms. All students must have a signed permission form returned before the day of the blood drive.

    8. Vote your boys basketball Warriors as team of the week this week in the Enquirer at cincinnati.com

    9. Senior cheerleaders and senior boys’ basketball players are reminded to return senior night forms to Mr. Nerl this week.

    10. There will be a brief meeting for anyone interested in running track this spring today at 3:15. Weather permitting, the meeting will be on the track.

    11. Yearbooks are still available for pre-order through yearbookforever.com. Don't miss out on this one-of-a-kind book. Order yours today before they are gone!
