Eight Mariemont High School seniors signed letters of intent to continue their athletics careers at the collegiate level. Jake Bowling, Ava Ellis, Lydia Eberlein, Mia Latimer, Owen Metze, Kendall Spreen, Caroline Soller and Bennett Turan all celebrated Signing Day with a ceremony on Thursday, joined by their families, coaches, teammates and classmates.
Jake Bowling Basketball | University of Cincinnati Clermont
Bowling was a two-year member of the varsity basketball team.
Lydia Eberlein Swimming | Butler University
Eberlein finished fifth in the state of Ohio as a member of the 200 medley relay and was eighth in the state with the 400 freestyle relay. Individually, she placed eighth in the state in the 100 breaststroke and qualified to the OHSAA state meet in the 200 individual medley.
Ava Ellis Swimming | Case Western Reserve University
This season, Ellis placed eighth at the OHSAA state meet in the 500 freestyle and 12th in the 100 breaststroke. She also joined the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay to place fifth and eighth, respectively.
Mia Latimer Swimming | University of Akron
Latimer is the reigning Cincinnati Hills League (CHL) Swimmer of the Year. At the OHSAA state meet, she finished as the runner up in the 100 freestyle and was sixth in the 50 freestyle. She also joined fellow signees Eberlein and Ellis as a member of the fifth place medley relay team and the eighth place 400 freestyle team.
Owen Metze Baseball | Mount St. Joseph University
At the conclusion of the 2022 season, Metze was named Second Team All-CHL. During the current 2023 season he is leading the league in homeruns and runs batted in.
Kendall Spreen Basketball | Capital University
Spreen was a four-year varsity starter for the Mariemont High School girls basketball team. In 2023 she was named First Team All-CHL, First Team All-District 16 and Honorable Mention All-Southwest Ohio.
Caroline Soller Lacrosse | University of Cincinnati
As a junior, Soller was named USA Lacrosse All-America, along with First Team All-State, First Team All-Region, First Team All-CHL. Additionally, she is a Second Team All-City Tennis player who qualified for the district championship this year.
Bennett Turan Cross Country | Xavier University
Finished as the 13th-best runner at the 2022 OHSAA state meet and earned the titles of Cincinnati Enquirer D2 Runner of the Year, CHL Runner of the Year, First Team All-City and First Team All-CHL.
