Thursday, 10/13 – Do what is right even when no one is watching.
Thursday, 10/14 – Notice that it doesn’t’ really matter who is first in line.
First Quarter School-Wide Book: My First Day by Phung Nguyen Guang & Huynh in Lien
In addition to our monthly Kindness Themes, we also have a school-wide book each quarter that was selected by our building’s Global & Cultural Perspectives Building Committee. These books will be read aloud in each classroom. They not only support our monthly Kindness Themes, but they also reinforce ways to create safe learning spaces and environments where our student’s stories are not only recognized, but honored, celebrated and loved!
Summary of the book – “This is no ordinary first journey. The rain season has come to the Mekong Delta, and An, a young Vietnamese boy, sets out alone in a wooden boat wearing a little backpack and armed only with a single oar. On the way, he is confronted by giant crested waves, heavy rainfall, and an eerie forest, where fear takes hold of him. Although daunted by the dark unknown, An realizes that he is not alone and continues to paddle. He knows it will be worth it when he reaches his destination-one familiar to children all around the world.”
