Mariemont Athletics Postseason Roundup: Oct. 29

Girls Soccer players

Mariemont High School athletics teams continue their success in the postseason. Check out this week’s update for each team still competing.
 
Boys Cross Country
A week after winning the Cincinnati Hills League (CHL) championship, the boys cross country team won the Division II district championship on Oct. 24 at Voice of America Park in West Chester. The team scored a total of 24 points with second-place Madeira earning 47. Bennett Turan was crowned district champion with the fastest D2 time of 16:24.0 while Sam Beeler was just behind him in 16:25.4. Ben Fahnestock was fifth, Santi Biro was seventh and Henry Buck finished ninth. The team advances to the regional meet on Saturday, October 31, at Troy Memorial Stadium in Troy, Ohio. The boys will race at 12:00 p.m. with the top four teams and the individuals in the top 16 advancing to state.
 
Girls Cross Country
The girls cross country team was also crowned Division II district champions on Oct. 24, scoring 26 points in the meet, ahead of second-place Taylor. Lily Bauer was again the fastest runner of the day with a time of 18:46.8 – 51 seconds ahead of the next competitor. Grace Mavridoglou finished seventh, Kiersten Souders was ninth, Jessica Beeler was 10th and Bridget Gilmore was 11th. The team advances to the regional meet on Saturday, October 31, at Troy Memorial Stadium in Troy, Ohio. The girls will race at 1:00 p.m. with the top three teams and the individuals in the top 12 advancing to the state meet.
 
Football
The Warriors picked up their third consecutive postseason win on Saturday, Oct. 24, beating Purcell Marian 31-8 at Kusel Stadium. It marks the first regional semifinal appearance for Mariemont since 2003. The team will play for a spot in the regional final on Saturday, Oct. 31, at Springfield Shawnee at 7:00 p.m.
 
Boys Soccer
The boys soccer team earned a dramatic 3-2 overtime win against Cincinnati Country Day on Tuesday, Oct. 26. After being down 2-0 early, MHS fought back to send the game to golden goal overtime. It was Luke Brothers with a goal in the final four minutes to seal the win for the Warriors. The team continues postseason play against Yellow Springs High School on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 7:00 p.m. The game will be played at Trotwood-Madison High School.
 
Girls Soccer
The girls soccer team rolled to an 8-0 victory over Clermont Northeastern on Oct. 27. The Warriors advance to the district final on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 3:00 p.m. The team will face Tipp City-Bethel High School at Monroe High School.
