Fifth Grade Students Shine at Destination Imagination Competition

The Mariemont City Schools fifth grade Destination Imagination (DI) team, comprised of students from both Mariemont Elementary and Terrace Park Elementary, recently placed second at the Region 14 DI competition at Lakota East Freshman High School. Their performance qualified them for the Ohio DI State Tournament on April 1.

Six fifth grade students - Theo Basora, Elliot Hayes and Donald Tripepi from Mariemont Elementary School, and Sawyer Chavez, Mae Feldman and Poppy Russell from Terrace Park Elementary School – combined to form the “Thunder Birds” team. Together, they created and performed a scientific tale featuring Benjamin Franklin.

Destination Imagination is a non-profit, volunteer-led, cause-driven organization with a purpose to inspire and equip students to become the next generation of innovators and leaders. Annually, it offers seven new standards-based challenges in STEM, improv, visual arts, service learning and early learning. Each challenge is open-ended and enables student teams to learn and experience the creative process from imagination to innovation.
