The Mariemont City School District will remain in Tier 1 through at least Monday, November 23rd unless the need arises to make a shift sooner.
As is stated in our
RESTART plan, we use guidance from local health officials in making the decision on which Tier to implement in our schools, and this guidance has recently shifted as the science of COVID-19 continues to evolve.
In the summer months and early weeks of the school year, health official guidance advised schools to use community data and community epidemiology as the priority metric for making operating decisions, mostly because school COVID-19 data was not yet available. However, now that school has been in session for an extended period of time and health officials are seeing no evidence that increasing numbers of COVID-19 cases are the result of children being in school, this guidance has changed.
Cincinnati Children’s Hospital’s latest guidance for schools shifts the priority metric for making operating decisions to school-specific COVID-19 data. In particular, (1) the number of student and staff cases with evidence of in-school transmission; (2) the number of student and staff quarantines as a result of in-school contact; and (3) adherence to behavior risk management protocols and procedures (The Bundle).
Additionally, Hamilton County Health Commissioner Greg Kesterman has said that, with the lack of spread in schools we have seen thus far throughout the county, schools continue to be one of the safest, most well-controlled environments for our children.
We have been fortunate to have a minimal number of COVID-19 cases in our schools, and there is no evidence of in-school transmission. Quarantine numbers for students and staff have also not been significant to date. Our students and staff are doing an excellent job following health safety protocols and practices.

Second Semester Online Warriors Intent Form
With the first quarter of the 2020-2021 school year over and the second quarter underway, we are beginning to plan staffing models for second semester to accommodate both in-person learning and our Online Warriors program. If your child(ren) is currently attending school in person and plans to stay in person during the second semester, you do not need to complete the intent form.
If your child(ren) is currently an Online Warrior
or if your child(ren) is currently in person and plans to switch to online second semester, we are asking you to share your intent to assist us in our planning. This intent is not a commitment from you but, it will be helpful in our planning. Please complete
this short form for each of your children by
Friday November 6th.
Registration for second semester Online Warriors will begin in mid-November with a deadline of December 7th so that we can be ready by January 14th, the end of the second semester. More information will be shared in a few weeks.

PLEASE REMEMBER:
- it is very important that parents/guardians inform the school district if your child is quarantined because of close contact with someone COVID-19 positive;
- we need to know if your child has been tested for COVID-19 and is awaiting results;
- we also need to know if your child tests positive for COVID-19;
- if your child is tested for COVID-19, please do not send them to school until you receive results back and they are negative.
