Mariemont City Schools Mourns Loss of Junior High School Student
Block M Logo
On Saturday, January 1, 2022, Mariemont City Schools learned of the passing of Mariemont Junior High School seventh grade student Annabell Nguyen. The district sends sincere condolences and thoughts to Annabell’s family and loved ones.

“Annabell was an incredibly sweet girl who was a great daughter, granddaughter, sister, friend and classmate” said Mariemont Junior High School principal Rob Polca. “She was bright and talented, a skillful artist and kind friend. Today we are grieving with her family, as well as all who knew and loved Annabell. We also are committed to supporting our students and staff through this terribly sad time.”

“This is a very sad day for the Mariemont City Schools community” said superintendent Steven Estepp. “My heart goes out to Annabell’s family and friends and my hope is that we can all continue to help each other through this trying time.”

Annabell died by suicide, and the school district, along with the Nguyen family, would like to take this opportunity to remind our community that suicide is a very complicated act. We do not know all the causes or motivations for a suicide. We want the community to be aware of the significance of mental health, and the importance of reaching out for help if you or your child are not feeling well in any way.

Our counseling staff and Child Focus therapists will be available to meet with students individually and in groups over the coming days and weeks. Children who are already vulnerable may be at greater risk due to exposure to the suicide of a peer. If you or your child need help right away, call 911, or take your child to the nearest crisis center or emergency department.
