MHS Students Place Second in Student of the Year Competition
4 MHS Warriors for a Cure Students
A group of Mariemont High School students recently finished as the runner-up in the Student of the Year competition hosted by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Cincinnati. The “Warriors for a Cure” team was led by Graham Kempiners, Sadie Kohlman, Ryder Osgood and Patrick Crowley and included over 40 MHS students.

The Students of the Year program is a philanthropic leadership development program during which students foster professional skills such as entrepreneurship, marketing and project management in order to raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), the world’s largest nonprofit fighting blood cancer. The title Students of the Year is awarded to the candidate or co-candidates in each community who raises the most funds during the competition.

The Warriors for a Cure team finished second among the 15 local teams in the competition. The MHS students raised over $100,000 throughout the seven-week program to advance cancer research and support cancer patients and their families. In the competition, the team achieved Hall of Fame status and earned the prestigious Top Campaign Fundraiser Impact Award.

Warriors for a Cure received sponsorship donations from UDF, The Oliver Family Foundation, Snow Commerce and END & Allergy Associates.

Overall, it was a record-breaking year for the Cincinnati Student of the Year chapter which raised a total of $743,000 by all teams, beating the previous record by $100,000.
