3. Our career theme for October has been Manufacturing. When you walk down the hallway to the CCPC, you’ll see career posters which depict many different careers within this field. Here are some examples -

Are you interested in Mechantronics? This is a career for people who love problem solving and have an interest in computers and math. A mechatronics job is a varying mixture of electronics and mechanical obstacles which must be overcome every day. The job can be different each day and the technician can work across a multitude of departments and industries.

Mechanical engineers are involved in manufacturing, too. They design, build, and test all sorts of mechanical and thermal devices, including tools, engines and machines. There are 17 specializations in mechanical engineering, though many engineers fluctuate between specializations throughout their career. This is an excellent career for creative people who have an interest in mathematics, physics and mechanical systems. Communication skills are important as you’ll often be working in teams with engineers and researchers in related fields. Mechanical engineers generally work in offices run by engineering, research and development, and manufacturing companies, as well as the federal government. Engineers design, test and assemble product prototypes, as well as communicate proposals to vendors, clients and other professionals on the design team.

Are you interested in a career in welding? Welding is more than fusing metal parts – it requires knowledge of math and science. Welders are often responsible for estimating costs, choosing metal materials and making calculations. Though welders spend a lot of time working solo, they often have to work with clients, other tradespeople and welders. Welding is used everywhere – from underwater welding to welding in outer space. Make sure you join our Career Chat this Thursday, October 28, in room 26 during Warrior bell featuring Jake Fullard, a professor in the Automation & Controls technology with the Robotics department, at Sinclair College.

If you have any questions, see Mrs. Leszczuk
