Mariemont City Schools Celebrate Academic Excellence
For the first time since February of 2020 the Mariemont City School District welcomed back students and staff members to the regular Board of Education meetings for a celebration of awards and recognitions. There was much to celebrate as the school district has seen many academic and artistic accomplishments throughout the few weeks of the 2021-22 school year.

Below are pictures of each group of recognitions along with a description of their accomplishments.

Cincinnati Youth Symphony Orchestra
Three Mariemont High School students, Dianna Hester, Nora O’Donnell and Anastasia Szymkowiak, were recently accepted into the prestigious Cincinnati Youth Symphony Orchestra. The trio earned their spots on the CYSO after an extensive audition process. You can read more about the orchestra here.

National Merit Scholars
Mariemont High School principal, Dr. Jim Renner, presented five of his students to the Board of Education for becoming National Merit Scholars. Zoe Copetas, Xander Stigall and Ellison Van Scoy were recognized for being National Merit Commended Students while Andrew Chen and Alexandra Purdy have been named National Merit Semifinalists. You can read more about the National Merit Program and what these accolades mean here.

National Blue Ribbon School
The entire staff of Mariemont Junior High School was honored by the Board for recently being named a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. This is the most prestigious honor awarded by the U.S. Department of Education and MJHS was one of only 325 public or private schools across the country to earn this distinction in 2021. MJHS received the status as Exemplary High Performing School. You can read more about this award here.

Excellence on Ohio Standardized Tests
Each year our students take annual state tests that measures their knowledge and growth from year to year. In 2020-2021, during an academic year disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, four elementary school teachers excelled with their student testing results. Congratulations to Annette Engle (TPE), Maria Childs (ME), Susie Fiorina (ME) and Amy Uhl (ME).

Superintendent’s Showcase
Superintendent Steven Estepp brought back the Superintendent’s Showcase Award, which began in 2019 and was designed as another way to recognize amazing contributors to the Mariemont Experience.

The first recipient was Rebekah Schuholz, a sixth-grade teacher at Terrace Park Elementary. Rebekah earned acclaim from the Ohio Academy of Science and is being recognized as an exemplar in science education and student research for incorporating inquiry-based research and technological design to motivate intrinsic learning. It is because of Rebekah that students at Terrace Park Elementary were able to excel in the District Science Day and State Science Day last year. Even through a pandemic and a year of difficult teaching and learning environments, she made sure to protect this part of the Mariemont Experience for her students and she is being honored for her persistence and advancement of the science and engineering community in Ohio.

The second recipients of the Superintendent’s Showcase award were Mariemont High School teachers Jennifer Broo and Bruce Miller for their excellence in teaching Advanced Placement classes. Both of these teachers lead multiple AP courses in some of our most difficult disciplines and each have earned a 100% passage rate on some of their tests for three straight years. That means that each student that has taken AP Computer Science, AP Calculus BC and AP Biology at Mariemont High School over the last three years has qualified to earn college credit in these courses.
