MHS Athletic Field Named for Legendary Coach Tom Crosby
Tom Crosby and family
Mariemont High School’s athletic field was officially named Tom Crosby Field at Kusel Stadium on Friday, Sept. 24, as part of a pregame homecoming celebration. The Board of Education approved the naming of the field at its regular meeting on September 13 after an ad hoc committee unanimously moved forward the recommendation to name the field after Crosby and his 30+ years of support for the Mariemont City School District.

Tom Crosby served two stints as the head football coach for Mariemont High School from 1978 – 1998 and again from 2001 – 2012. During that time he compiled a 214-117-1 record and was a state finalist in 1980 and 1995. He was inducted into the Ohio High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 2010 and also accumulated the following career achievements:
  • 1995 NFL-Cincinnati Bengals High School Coach of the Year
  • 1995 Ohio Division 5 Coach of the Year
  • 1996 National Football Foundation Contribution to Amateur Football Award
  • 1993 SWOFCA Doc Collins Man of the Year
  • 1992 Ohio North South Game Head Coach
  • 3-time OHSFCA Region 16 Coach of the Year
  • 7-time Cincinnati Enquirer/Cincinnati Post Coach of the Year
  • 6-time CHL Coach of the Year
  • 4-time CHL Champs
  • Ranked first in the Ohio state AP poll in 1995
  • Ranked second in the Ohio state AP poll in 1994 and 1996

During his 32-year coaching career at Mariemont, Crosby also served the district as a health and physical education teacher, assistant principal and principal.

With the field naming rights, Crosby’s name is placed alongside another Mariemont legend, Doc Kusel, as the field will now be known as “Tom Crosby Field at Kusel Stadium”.

Crosby was presented with the honor in a pregame ceremony by superintendent Steven Estepp and principal Jim Renner.
