Mariemont Athletics Postseason Roundup: Oct. 21

We have reached the fall sports postseason and the Mariemont athletics teams have had a lot to celebrate for the fall of 2020. Below is a recap of the athletics teams’ successes and the next opportunity to cheer on the Warriors.
 
Mariemont High School Boys Cross Country
The boys team won the Cincinnati Hills League (CHL) championship for the first time since 2011 on October 17. The team’s 22 points tied for the fifth-lowest point total at a boy’s league championship in CHL history. The Warriors swept the top four podium finishes with sophomore Bennett Turan winning the meet, Sam Beeler placing second, Ben Fahnestock placing third and Santi Biro placing fourth. All four were named First Team All-League. Henry Buck (12th(, Andrew Chen (14th) and Martin Eisenhauer (15th) earned All-League Honorable Mention honors. Turan was named the CHL Runner of the Year and head coach Natalie Dragovich earned Coach of the Year honors. Next the team will compete at the district championships on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 2:00 p.m. at Voice of America Park in West Chester. The top three teams and the top 12 individuals not on those teams will advance to the regional meet.
 
Mariemont High School Girls Cross Country
The girls cross country team took third place at the CHL Championship meet in Oct. 17. Sophomore Lily Bauer won the meet and earned Runner of the Year honors, finishing almost one whole minute ahead of the second-place finisher. Kiersten Sounders (13th), Grace Mavridoglou (14th) and Jessica Beeler (15th) all earned All-League Honorable Mention Honors. The team will run at the district meet on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 12:30 p.m. at Voice of America Park in West Chester. The top two teams and the top eight individuals not on those teams will advance to the regional meet.
 
Mariemont High School Football
The MHS football team captured its first playoff victory since 2003 on Oct. 11 when it beat Reading 31-28 at Kusel Stadium. It then topped West Liberty-Salem 25-0 in the second round of the playoffs and will face Purcel Marian in Kusel Stadium at 7:00 pm. On Saturday, Oct. 24, for a place in the Regional Semifinals. 13 players were named to the All-League teams including Max Megowen, Andrew Glassmeyer and Jack Milehan on First Team, Ethan Malafa, David Dorsten, Seth Greene, Max Tepe, Connor Souders and Jack Bogerding on Second Team and Jeb Lindell, Barrett Lindell, Jack McCloskey and Henry Dunne with Honorable Mention honors.
 
Mariemont High School Boys Golf
The boys golf team finished third in the CHL. The Warriors were also sectional champions and the team qualified for district competition.
 
Mariemont High School Boys Soccer
The boys soccer team finished a perfect regular season with a 16-0 record and a 7-0 mark in the CHL. The team currently is the top-ranked Division II team in the state of Ohio and will begin postseason play on Thursday, Oct. 22, against Deer Park at 7 p.m. at Kusel Stadium. Luke Brothers finished the regular season atop the CHL leaderboard with 55 points (19 goals, 17 assists) on the year. Martin Eisenhauer was fifth with 32 points (13 goals and six assists) while goalkeeper Maddox Miller was second with nine shutouts and fifth with 55 saves.
 
Mariemont Junior High School Boys Soccer
The MJHS Warriors boys soccer team finished the 2020 season with an undefeated record.
 
Mariemont High School Girls Soccer
The MHS girls soccer team also finished the 2020 regular season undefeated with a 13-0-3 record and a perfect 7-0 mark in the CHL. The Warriors are the No. 1 ranked team in the city and begin postseason play on Saturday, Oct. 24, with a 2 p.m. matchup at Kusel Stadium against Cincinnati Clark Montessori. Three Warriors finished with at least 20 points in the regular season including Marley Megowen (30 points – 11 goals and eight assists), Olivia Tritsch (25 points – 11 goals and three assists) and Maddy Murphy (22 points – six goals and 10 assists). In goal, Ericka Dewey led the CHL with nine shutouts and collected 25 saves.
 
Mariemont Junior High School Girls Soccer
The MJHS Warriors girls soccer team finished the 2020 season with an undefeated record.
 
Mariemont High School Girls Tennis
The girls tennis team wrapped up a historic 2020 season with an 18-3 overall record, good for second in the CHL. The Warriors went 14-0 at the sectional championship and advanced all seven team members to the district tournament at the ATP Tennis Center.
