Five Inducted into Mariemont High School Athletics Hall of Fame
Mariemont High School inducted five new members in to the Doc Kusel Athletic Hall of Fame in pre-game ceremonies before the Mariemont-Oakwood football game on August 20. Eric Nerl, ErikSwanson, Claire Gilmore, Will Grimmer and Mac Lewis were the members of the 2020 induction class. 
 
Gilmore and Lewis were celebrated with a dinner reception as well as an on-field recognition at the first Mariemont High School football game of the year. Grimmer, Nerl and Swanson will officially be recognized during a boys basketball game on December 17.
 
The Class of 2020 Inductees are:
 
Eric Nerl (’12)   earned nine varsity letters in football and baseball for the Warriors.  Nerl was a three time 1st Team  CHL selection and honorable mention all city selection in baseball as a pitcher and infielder. Nerl led the city in strikeouts in 2012, tied the school season wins record and was an CHL honorable mention selection twice in football.   Nerl finished his baseball career at Eastern Kentucky University.
 
Erik Swanson (’12) was a two time 1st Team CHL selection for the Warriors, and a three time All City Honorable mention selection in baseball.  The hard throwing righty tied the school season record for wins in a season as a Warrior.  Swanson completed his collegiate career at Iowa Western and was the 5th round draft choice of the Texas Rangers.  Swanson is currently on the roster of the Seattle Mariners, making his big league debut in 2019.
 
Claire Gilmore (’15), the 200 Free State Champion in Division 2 in 2014,  was 9 time CHL Champ swimming for the Warriors, as well as a 2 time CHL Swimmer of the Year. Gilmore was Top 3 CHL in all 4 of her CHL events for  all 4 years of her high school career.  Gilmore was also a 9 time district champ, setting records in the  200 free and 100 free, and finished Top 3 in the districts in 15 of 16 events over her four years.  Gilmore qualified for the Ohio D2 High School Championships in 16 events, and finished Top 8 in 15 of those events, and on the podium in 15 events. Gilmore was Enquirer Swimmer of the Year 2014, 4 time all city, 4 time honorable mention; 3 time All American and Graduated with 10 MHS Records.  Gilmore finished her collegiate career at The Ohio State University. Gilmore currently works for the Anthony Munoz Foundation in Cincinnati.
 
Will Grimmer (’15) was a four time Cincinnati Golfer of the Year and three time CHL Golfer of the Year while picking up 1st team CHL and 1st team All City selections in each of his high school seasons. A two time OHSAA D2 State Championship qualifier, Grimmer finished 5th as a sophomore and runner up as a junior.  As a senior, Grimmer was named the Penn Station High School Athlete of the Year, Hewlett Packard All American, and Rolex All American.  Grimmer has competed in the US Open twice, and completed his collegiate career at The Ohio State University.  Grimmer currently is a member of the Korn Ferry Tour. 
 
Mac Lewis (’15) qualified for 16 OHSAA Championship Swimming events over his career as a Warrior, the maximum number of events possible for an individual.  Lewis was also a five time CHL Champion out of a possible 8 events.  Lewis’ senior season saw him finish 8thn in the 500 Free, 4th in the Individual Medley, 12th in the 200 Free Relay, and 14th in the 400 Free relay while picking up Honorable mention All City Honors.  Lewis retired with Top 10 times in all events for Mariemont Swimming.  Lewis also gained Scholastic All American recognition before moving on to compete for Cleveland State in his collegiate career. Lewis is currently the head swim coach for Mariemont High School
