Neighbor Helping Neighbor: The True #MariemontExperience
ConnectME Blog LogoIt has certainly been an interesting few weeks. In an instant, life as we knew it was turned upside down.  School buildings and businesses are closed, people are staying home and wearing a mask has become a part of daily life. But, even with all this upheaval, the Mariemont City School District is stronger than ever!

Families, school district staff and students have all come together to make the most out of a difficult situation to ensure continuity of teaching and learning and all of the many other services the district provides its students beyond academic instruction.

We are committed to making sure all Mariemont City Schools families have what they need during this extended school building closure.  With students at home, some of our families are experiencing hardship and it’s important that we help. And I’m so proud of the residents of Columbia Township, Fairfax, Mariemont and Terrace Park who, in partnership with our school foundation, have stepped up to answer the call.

The Mariemont School Foundation (MSF) established the Angel Fund ten years ago to assist students and families in need. And during these unprecedented times, having this fund available to assist families during the Coronavirus pandemic has been a blessing.  We have been able to purchase grocery store gift cards, school supplies and internet access for families needing help, and the requests for help continue today.

As we spend Angel Fund dollars, I have been overwhelmed with gratitude as donations continue to grow so that we can keep providing support to our families. Since the school building closure on March 16, the Angel Fund has received over $10,000 in generous donations from the community. I have had so many community members ask how they can help during this time of need and I know this is the exact spirit of the #MariemontExperience. It extends beyond the school building walls. It is neighbors helping neighbors and it is why I am so thankful to be a part of this community.

In addition to the initial donations, the MSF has just announced that an anonymous donor has offered to match any Angel Fund donation up to $5,000 between now and June 15. Meaning any contribution you make will be matched dollar for dollar and double the reach of your gift.

What an incredible display of generosity and compassion during this time of need. Thank you to this anonymous donor for thinking of others during this challenging time. It is proof that we can get through this together.

I encourage anyone who is able and willing to contribute to the Angel Fund and have your gift matched. No donation is too small, and every penny will go directly to Mariemont City Schools families in need of assistance during the pandemic. And a big thank you to everyone who has already contributed to the fund. Your thoughtfulness has already made a big difference.

If you would like to contribute to the Angel Fund and have your gift matched by the donor, please visit the MSF’s Angel Fund webpage here or click on the Angel Fund Donation link on the school district’s Coronavirus Updates webpage.

Thank you, Mariemont City Schools community, for your generosity, thoughtfulness and patience during these difficult times. I cannot wait until we are all back together again soon. Until then, stay safe and healthy!
