DECA Students Complete Historic Run at Career Development Conference

Students at DECA competition

The DECA Program at Mariemont High School has soared to new heights in recent years, highlighted by a historic performance to close out the 2021-22 Career Development Conference season.

Ten MHS Students, along with business teacher and DECA advisor David Vilardo, attended the DECA International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, April 23-26, competing against high school students from across the country to demonstrate their knowledge in career clusters of marketing, business management and administration, finance, and hospitality and tourism.

Four of the students placed amongst the top-10 in their respective categories. Senior Henry Buck placed fourth in Retail Merchandising, sophomore Clara Hampton finished sixth in Restaurant and Food Service Management and the tandem of seniors Ellison Van Scoy and Isabella Harris placed seventh in Marketing Management Team Decision Making.

The conference was attended by over 18,000 high school students, advisors, businesspersons and alumni. 550 students advanced from the Ohio state conference and 16 of those individuals or teams placed in the top-10. Mariemont High School was one of only two schools in the state of Ohio to have three individuals or teams earn top-10 finishes at the conference, making this the most successful conference in MHS DECA history.

In addition to the four students who placed, junior Jack Peirol, sophomore Pierce Hanser, junior Alexandra Harris, junior Rachel Bohl, sophomore Lucy Dorn and sophomore Hadley Dickinson also represented Mariemont High School at the conference.
