Fourth Quarter School-Wide Book: Just Ask by Sonia Sotomayor

In addition to our monthly Kindness Themes we also have a school-wide book each quarter that was selected by our building’s Global & Cultural Perspectives Building Committee that will be read aloud in each classroom. The book not only supports our monthly Kindness Themes but also reinforces ways to create safe learning spaces and environments where our student's stories are not only recognized but honored, celebrated and loved!

Summary of the Book- Feeling different, especially as a kid, can be tough. But in the same way that different types of plants and flowers make a garden more beautiful and enjoyable, different types of people make our world more vibrant and wonderful. In Just Ask, United States Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor celebrates the different abilities kids (and people of all ages) have. Using her own experience as a child who was diagnosed with diabetes, Justice Sotomayor writes about children with all sorts of challenges, and looks at the special powers those kids have as well. As the kids work together to build a community garden, asking questions of each other along the way, this book encourages readers to do the same: When we come across someone who is different from us but we’re not sure why, all we have to do is Just Ask.

Water Bottles

Please remember to send a water bottle with your child daily. The water fountains in the building have been closed this year and will continue to remain closed for the time being. As a result we have increased the number of touchless water bottle filling stations in our building. We now have touchless water bottle filling stations available on every water fountain on each floor as well as in the gym if students need to refill their water throughout the day.
