Fourth Quarter School-Wide Book: Just Ask by Sonia Sotomayor

In addition to our monthly Kindness Themes we also have a school-wide book each quarter that was selected by our building’s Global & Cultural Perspectives Building Committee that will be read aloud in each classroom. The book not only supports our monthly Kindness Themes but also reinforces ways to create safe learning spaces and environments where our student's stories are not only recognized but honored, celebrated and loved!

Summary of the Book- Feeling different, especially as a kid, can be tough. But in the same way that different types of plants and flowers make a garden more beautiful and enjoyable, different types of people make our world more vibrant and wonderful. In Just Ask, United States Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor celebrates the different abilities kids (and people of all ages) have. Using her own experience as a child who was diagnosed with diabetes, Justice Sotomayor writes about children with all sorts of challenges, and looks at the special powers those kids have as well. As the kids work together to build a community garden, asking questions of each other along the way, this book encourages readers to do the same: When we come across someone who is different from us but we’re not sure why, all we have to do is Just Ask.

Lost & Found

We have a number of jackets, sweaters, sweatshirts, and lunch boxes that are in our Lost & Found. If your child is missing an item, please encourage your child to stop by to claim his/her missing item. During the Art Show on May 11th we will move the Lost & Found cart to the front office area so that parents can view the items. All clothes that are left in the lost and found after the school year ends, will be packed up and donated by the end of the month in June.
