Announcements -- Monday, January 30, 2023

Back in October you may remember we were invited to take a survey sponsored by Sources of Strength and 1-N-5 centered around Mental Health and Student Wellness here at Mariemont. The results of the survey have been compiled and we wanted to share some of it with you. I’ll turn it over to Luke who will share some of the key points from the survey.

Thank you Warriors for taking the time to complete the survey. Through the survey we learned 81% of you turn to your friends for support to improve your wellness. That’s awesome! We also learned 17% of students are using Mental Health Resources. This is great Warriors because on a National average 20 percent of students struggle with mental health and need these resources such as counseling, medication and support. Way to stop the stigma and show it’s okay to ask for help.

The second thing we’d like to highlight from the survey is our Top 3 Strengths, Warriors our Top 3 Strengths were: #3 Family Support  #2 Healthy Activities and #1 Positive Friends. In upcoming broadcasts we’ll highlight how our school clubs are a great way to meet new people who can become these positive friends.

The last thing we learned from the survey was about student sleeping habits. We learned most students go to bed between 10:00PM and 12:30AM. On average only 40 percent of students are getting at least 8 hours of sleep. Sleep is important to mental health, so if you’re not getting enough sleep here’s a few ways you can wind down before going to bed.

Here are just a few examples that might help you get the rest you need.

  • Exercise, do some push ups or a light workout.

  • Unwind, put your phone down and relax with some music

  • Unplug, turn off the distractions around you and enjoy the quiet.

Warriors keep up the great work to stay mentally healthy, together we can break the stigma.
