Mariemont High School athletic director Tom Nerl has announced that Tassos Madonis will be named the next head swimming coach of Mariemont High School.

Madonis comes to Mariemont with nearly 40 years of coaching experience, including a 13-year stint as the head men’s and women’s swimming and diving team at Xavier University.

“Tassos is a highly respected coach in the Cincinnati area at the college and high school level” said athletics director Tom Nerl. “He has a career of working with swimmers of all levels of ability and has produced great results wherever he has coached.  His coaching skills and personality working with our student athletes will be a great addition to our community, and I look forward to working with Tassos.”

Madonis has coached high school and collegiate swimmers throughout the Greater Cincinnati and Kentucky area since 1978. While at XU, his responsibilities included scheduling, budgeting, purchasing, public relations, recruiting, promoting and coaching both the men’s and women’s Division I programs.

In addition to his high school and college experience, he also has an Olympic credential to his name. He served with the United States Olympic Committee communications team for nine years and represented the USOC as an official translator during the 2004 summer Olympics in Athens, Greece.

“I am very excited to become a part of the Mariemont family” said Madonis. “I look forward to continuing the great tradition of fast swimmers and great people. I am also happy to be returning to Cincinnati swimming and renewing acquaintances with the fantastic coaches in the area.”

Madonis will assume his role as the head swimming coach at Mariemont High School pending approval by the Board of Education.
