Gifted Education at Mariemont City Schools

At Mariemont City Schools, we are committed to recognizing and supporting the diverse needs of all learners—including those who demonstrate exceptional potential and performance. Our gifted services are designed to provide meaningful and appropriately challenging learning experiences that help students thrive academically and individually.

What Does "Gifted" Mean?

The State of Ohio defines a gifted student as someone who performs or shows potential for performing at remarkably high levels of accomplishment when compared to peers of similar age, experience, or environment. Students can be identified in one or more of the following areas:

  • Superior cognitive ability
  • Specific academic ability
  • Creative thinking ability
  • Visual or performing arts

Gifted Identification

The Mariemont City School District follows the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce guidelines for identifying gifted students. Our approach includes universal whole grade screenings and referrals, using state-approved assessment instruments.

Gifted Services and Opportunities

Gifted education at Mariemont includes a range of services tailored to individual needs. These may include:
  • Enrichment groups
  • Curriculum compacting
  • Individualized enrichment
  • Project-based learning and service opportunities
  • Honors and Advanced Placement coursework
  • Subject or grade-level acceleration
  • Warriors BEyond program

Written Education Plans (WEPs)

Students receiving gifted services will have a Written Education Plan (WEP). These plans outline learning and effective goals based on the district curriculum and the student’s areas of identification. Parents receive a copy of the WEP each year, and student progress is shared through report cards and assessment data.

Family Partnership

We value collaboration with families and are committed to transparent communication about your student’s progress and services. If you have questions about gifted identification or programming, please contact:
