Assignment Tues. Nov. 11, 2008

Using Online Databases for periodical articles.

You need to "come to terms with your topic" today. That is, pretty much head in the direction of learning more about what you're interested in, and narrowing the focus.

In order to do that, we will peruse articles on Newsbank and/or EBSCO, but nothing else. There will be time to do general searches later.

Keep in mind, that Newsbank discovers newspapers while EBSCO can locate thousands of magazines, broadcast transcripts, and primary sources. Depending on your purposes, use one or both of these to locate articles relevant to your topic. You should have time to read and digest a few good articles. Be selective, and show me on paper, two citations (headings) and original info that you just might use in your eventual research paper by the end of the bell. You can use word processor, but no cut and paste. Paraphrase. (5 points).

Bring Cincinnati Public Library Card tomorrow.

Assignment Wed. Nov. 12, 2008

Finding and using printed books.

Today, we will use the MHS Library's OPAC to locate and scan books held right here in the MHS Library.  We will also use the Public Library's catalogue and delivery system to select 1-2 books from the county-wide system to be delivered to the Mariemont branch library. This task will only take part of the bell, so continue to gather sources, or read and take notes from sources you have.

Show me at least one book source in-hand, from the school's library and the beginnings of notes taken from these (5 points). I would also like to see proof of ordering any books you ordered from the public library. You can print out a 1-page receipt to show me.

Show me two books, in-hand, from wherever, that you will cite in paper in class on Nov. 20. (additional 5 points)

Tonight's Homework: Read Chap 10, Sections 1 & 2.
