| Mr. Stautberg was drafted into the United States Army. He went to Fort Knox, Kentucky for his basic training. He joined the paratroopers and was sent to Fort Benning, Georgia for extensive training for 4 weeks and then immediately sent overseas to France. They were needed as replacements so were sent to the front lines. From France he went on into Belgium and then to Germany. He was wounded near Hamburg and sent home a week before the war ended. Mr. Stautberg achieved the rank of Private First Class. He received the American Theater Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Purple Heart, EAME Theater Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars, Combat Infantry Badge, Parachutist Badge. |
