Mrs Cox served in the American Red Cross during World War II. She was trained in Washington, D.C. in how to set up enlisted men's clubs and was sent to North Africa where she was in charge of arranging entertainment and running a snack bar for the enlisted men. They served donuts and the coffee was made each day in 30 gallon trash cans. They served an average of 17.000 men a day. From Algiers, she was transferred to Rome, Italy. |
