| Mr. Belliveau was a member of the 78th Fighter Group of
the 84th Fighter Squadron. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in
1942 and went overseas in 1943. He went to England at a training base
near the border of Wales. He practiced on
Spitfires
and then
P47 Thunderbolts. He flew fighter planes that escorted bomber
squadrons composed of B17 and B24 bombers over Emden, Germany. He was
involved in the
D-Day invasion
of Normandy. Mr. Belliveau flew 96 missions and 304 combat hours.
He received the
Distinguished Flying Cross with cluster and the
Air
Medal with 7 clusters. He achieved the rank of Captain. |
