The goal of Flying Pig Kids’ Marathon is to promote childhood fitness, family fun, and a lifetime marathon of healthy habits. This program is designed for children ages 5-12 years old along with their fitness buddies (parents, teachers, leaders, mentors). IT IS NOT A RACE! Using the “Hog Log”, students can walk, jog or wheelchair the distance of a marathon, in small increments, at their own pace. Along with marathon miles, in your Hog Log are some Nutrition Challenges to help children make healthy eating a lifelong habit; simple steps on their marathon of good health. Exercising the brain is very important too. So part of the Kids’ Marathon is to add an additional challenge to the Hog Log of 15 minutes of extra reading. Each Wednesday after school from January through May are group walks to cover a mile or so with a group from school. A final mile “race” will be scheduled the first week in May and/or children can complete their final mile downtown the weekend of the Flying Pig marathon and cross the official “swine line”. Each participant will get a finishers shirt and a marathon medal ($10 registration).Giving Tree
