| AUTHOR VISIT -
Each year the Mariemont School
District invites an author to visit our schools. This committee
participates in the choosing of the author and planning for the
visit. Members work with the two other
elementary schools and our librarians.
BOOK FAIR - This event, usually held
in November, is a large book sale coordinated with
Scholastic Book Company. A lot of fun and interesting books
are offered to all ages, and all profits go to our library.
Our volunteers plan, set up and staff the sale in the
tornado room.
BOOTIQUE - This fun afternoon
is a prelude to the Pumpkin Festival. The children run out
of school to buy candy, home-baked treats, novelty items and
TP sportswear right on our own playground. There is Bingo in
the cafeteria as well. The committee is responsible for all
aspects of this fun afternoon with lots of help from our TP
school families that provide baked goods and staff the
event.
COSI - Each year the
traveling Center of Science and Industry visits our school
for a fun day of science for our children. The COSI
chairperson works with Mrs. Safford to staff the event held
in our gymnasium, usually in the Spring.
DIRECTORY - The PTO provides
each TP school family with a free directory listing all the
students phone numbers and addresses. The chairperson
compiles the directory in the early weeks of the Fall.
EVERYBODY COUNTS - This is a
program designed to teach our children about the many types
of physical and mental handicaps present in our world today.
It occurs in the Spring. The committee coordinates the
logistics of the pre-designed program for grades K-6, staffs
the event, and obtains a guest speaker.
FIELD DAY - During the last
week of school, our PE teacher holds an afternoon of outdoor
field events and games for all our grades. It is an
afternoon of fun, staffed by our parents.
FINE ARTS - Each
year, our students are guests at a number of fine arts
productions brought on-site. Each grade also gets to go on
a grade-appropriate field trip in one arena of the fine
arts. Finally, in the Spring, Terrace Park holds a wonderful
art show displaying our students’ finest artwork at the TP
Open House. Committee members oversee all aspects of our
fine arts opportunities.
GIVING TREE - Each year at
the Holidays, we purchase a live tree for our school to be
displayed at the entrance of the school. Coordinated with
the tree is a giving program in which our student body is
able to meet the needs of others through donations of new
toys, clothing and school supplies. Chairpersons are
responsible for the tree, its decoration and coordination of
the donations.
GRANDPARENT’S DAY -
Held each year right before Thanksgiving, this special day
welcomes Grandparents and parents alike into our classrooms
for a morning of shared learning with our students. 0ur
chairperson provides morning refreshments for our guests and
staffs our check-in table.
KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION -
In March, TPE holds an evening informational meeting for
parents of incoming Kindergarten students. The chairperson
publicizes the event and coordinates refreshments for the
evening.
KROGER CARDS -
Terrace Park Elementary School raises funds for the school
by offering Kroger Gift Cards to its families. Kroger
refunds a percentage of sales to our school when these cards
are tossed in their stores. The administrator of this
program is in charge of providing the cards to willing
families.
LANDSCAPING
- The PTO helps with "gardening" duties around the school
grounds especially in the summer before school opens and in
the spring.
LIBRARY - Our librarians
receive help from our parents throughout the school year.
Many volunteer help reshelf books and assist with book
checkout about once a month during their child’s
library time. Chairpersons organize the birthday book club
(a fun chance for our students to purchase a book to add to
the library collection on their birthday) and coordinate the
volunteer schedule.
LOST & FOUND - Our
PTO volunteer lends order to our lost and found by
displaying lost items so that they are more easily
identified. Twice a year unclaimed items are donated to a
needy charity.
MARKET DAY - This is our
school’s monthly fundraising food co-op. Customers can order
restaurant quality food items distributed through the Market
Day organization. Purchases are picked up in the
school cafeteria on a predetermined day. Chairpersons
coordinate all aspects of the food sale from distribution
and collection of the order forms, promotion of special
fundraising opportunities to staffing needs on the day of
food pick up.

MINI SCHOOL - During the
winter the PTO offers an after school program that runs one
day a week for four weeks. Students can choose from many
different classes (karate, drama, science, arts and crafts).
Committee chairs would be in charge of securing classes and
instructors, enrolling students, and the logistics of each
afternoon.
PRODUCT LABELS - Our school
earns money and products through the collection and
redemption of "Box Tops for Education" and Campbell Soup
labels. The chairperson is responsible for the promotion,
collection and organization of the labels.
PTO HOSPITALITY - At our PTO
meetings we provide coffee and goodies. The person
responsible supplies these items every meeting.
PUMPKIN FESTIVAL -
Our largest fundraiser,
the Pumpkin Festival is a community wide event featuring
games, a haunted house, a silent auction, food and much, much
more. The chairpersons work with a large committee
seeing to all aspects of this fun evening.
RECOGNITION NIGHT -
In February an awards ceremony
is held recognizing students achieving an academic average
of Merit Roll or Honor Roll. The chairperson coordinates the
refreshments provided for this ceremony.
ROLLER SKATING PARTY - This is
our district wide elementary skating party. The chairperson is
in charge of getting a flyer together and chaperoning that
night.
ROOM PARENT (SPECIALS)
- This person would be responsible for collecting
monies for each "specials" staff person for holiday gifts.
SCHOOL KITS - As a service to our parents, the PTO
offers pre-assembled school supply kits for purchase in
the spring. The person in charge coordinates promotion, sale and
distribution of the kits.
SCRIPPS GIFT CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
- This program offers gift
certificates from national retail stores for purchase. A
percentage of the sale is rebated to the school. The
chairperson administer all aspects of the program for the
PTO year round.
SEASONAL DOOR DECORATIONS — The PTO likes to enhance the
front entrance of the school with attractive seasonal
decorations. The chairperson purchases and installs these
decorations.
SIXTH GRADE BREAKFAST — Prior to the sixth grade graduation
ceremony, the PTO provides a light breakfast in the cafeteria
for sixth graders and their families. The chairperson for this
event organizes the breakfast.
SIXTH GRADE PLAY — In May, the sixth grade class puts on a
play. The chairperson of this committee works with a director
and a large committee to produce the play.
SIXTH GRADE T-SHIRTS — The sixth graders are given t-shirts
to commemorate their last year at TP. The chairperson helps the
students design their t-shirts, orders and distributes them.
SPORTSWEAR SALE — In the fall TPE sportswear and accessories
are sold to raise funds and promote school spirit. Chairpersons
are responsible for choosing what is sold and overseeing all
aspects of the sate.
TALENT SHOW — The Talent Show is held every May for students
wanting to showcase their many abilities from singing to magic
tricks. The chairperson is in charge of auditions, practices and
organizing the show.
TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK — The PTO coordinates activities
and surprises for our staff in April! May during Teacher
Appreciation week.
TEACHER CONFERENCE DINNERS — During parent-teacher
conferences in the November and February, the PTO provides our
staff with an nice a la carte dinner in appreciation. The
chairperson recruits volunteers to cook for the teachers and
oversees the dinner set up.
TEACHER LUNCHEONS — The PTO sponsors two luncheons for the
teachers throughout the year to thank them for their work. One
is held during the December Holidays, the other during Teacher
Appreciation Week. The chairpersons oversee all aspects of the
luncheons.
TEACHER TREATS -- Every Wednesday morning the PTO provides
our staff with a "sweet" treat in the teachers’ lounge. The
chairperson compiles a schedule of volunteers to supply the
snack
VOLUNTEER COORDINATION — A centralized data base of our
volunteers enables us to meet needs that crop up throughout the
year. This coordinator compiles the volunteer database in the
fall and recruits volunteers on an as needed basis to meet
unforeseen demands.
WEDNESDAY ENVELOPES — Every Wednesday the PTO coordinates the
distribution of key information from the school to the TP
families. Chairpersons are responsible for the assembly and
distribution of the white envelopes each week.
WEDNESDAY ENVELOPE COPIES — A volunteer makes all the copies
to be put in the Wed. envelopes weekly.
WELCOME NIGHT — Every August we welcome new
families to our school for an evening of tours and important information about
the upcoming school year. The chairperson invites the new
families, provides refreshments, recruits the tour guides and
photographs the new students.
YEARBOOK — Terrace Park Elementary commemorates every school
year with a yearbook available for purchase by the students.
Chairpersons prepare layouts for the yearbook and coordinate
sales.
YEAR END SLIDE SHOW — Every year the students are treated to
a slide show celebrating their school year. Chairpersons collect
pictures throughout the year and create the show with the help
