Make reading fun, not a chore.  Find your child's interest and cater to that interest.  Some activities you might find fun to do are:

Visit the local library and check out books or take a "field trip" and go to the public library downtown.

Visit a local statue or monument and either do research on its history and/or make up a story about it.

Work a puzzle with your child.  A good quiet, cool activity.

Limit TV to no more that 1-2 hours.  Watch together and discuss how conflicts were solved, what made it funny, etc.

The Mariemont City Schools Title I program is a very successful supplemental reading program provided to those children who show a need for addition reading instruction.  The Dibels(Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills)score is used as the pre-test and post-test for the Title I Program.  Title I classes focus on developing the language arts skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening.
