Six Mariemont High School seniors signed letters of intent to continue their athletics careers at the collegiate level. Braden Bortz, Charlie Cowart, Josh McClorey, Lainey Newman, Wally Renie and Yaitova Spiegel will all participate in college athletics when they arrive on their respective campuses in the fall.
Bortz will be attending DePauw University and playing lacrosse. He was a three-year starter on the Mariemont football team and a two-year starter for the lacrosse team.
Cowart will play lacrosse at the US Air Force Academy and is a four-year starting player for both the MHS Football and lacrosse teams.
McClorey also will be playing lacrosse for DePauw University and was a dual-sport athlete between lacrosse and soccer at Mariemont.
Newman will be attending Denison University in the fall as a member of the swimming team. She was a four-year swimmer while at Mariemont.
Like Bortz and McClorey, Renie also will be attending DePauw University but will do so as a football player. He was the MHS starting quarterback for the past three seasons and also started for two years on the lacrosse team.
Spiegel will continue her tennis career at North Central College and was a three-year varsity tennis player in high school.
The latest signees join seniors Cora Dupre (Indiana University, swimming) and Kate Overbey (Johns Hopkins University, swimming) who signed their LOIs in the fall.
