Corinne Fanta, a 2017 graduate of Mariemont High School, is the 2018 recipient of the LO.V.E. Fund Fellowship Scholarship. The Olivia V. Erhardt Memorial Fund, otherwise known as “the LO.V.E. Fund,” was established by the Erhardt family in conjunction with the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) and the Mariemont School Foundation to honor Olivia’s life, her love of science and her desire to help others in need.
Olivia participated in the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center’s Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program in 2015, and the LO.V.E. Fund was launched to help other young scholars in the Mariemont City Schools community. The fund allows Cincinnati Children’s Hospital to extend a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship position to a Mariemont High School graduate in a research lab that otherwise could not fund such a position. For the Mariemont City School District, the SURF program renders the experiential learning and career exploration the schools embrace through the Warriors BEyond flagship program.
Olivia’s parents, Mark & Joan Erhardt share “(we) are very touched by the continued support of CCHMC, Mariemont High School, and The Mariemont School Foundation in making the fellowship so successful. Olivia’s participation in the SURF program was a real game changer for her and we are so glad that others can get the same opportunity to work with top researchers at CCHMC.”
This year, 1,380 students applied to the SURF program, including 31 students from the Mariemont community. This prestigious program is welcoming 129 students this Summer, with 10 participants from Mariemont, including Corinne. “We are excited to welcome Corinne to the program, as a fellow Mariemont High School alum and someone who knew Olivia,” said Sherry Thornton, PhD, program director of SURF.
Corinne is a sophomore at the University of Tampa, where she is majoring in Nursing and is interested in pursuing a PhD in Nursing in the future. With her selection for the LO.V.E fund fellowship, Corinne will participate in the SURF program this summer. Her mentor will be Dr. Lilliam Ambroggio in the Division of Hospital Medicine at CCHMC.
