The Mariemont Junior High School Power of the Pen team hosted its first district writing competition and our Warrior writers are recognized for their excellent writing.

Coached by Mariemont Junior High staff members Leslie Jordan, Jill Strall and Erica Eppert, the district's 7th and 8th grade teams competed alongside 230 students from 21 other schools. Out of nearly 100 7th grade writers, five Mariemont Junior High School students placed in the top 15. Ellison Van Scoy placed 12th; Lizzie Feeney placed 6th; Erika Dewey placed 5th; Emma Lundeberg placed 2nd; and the 7th grade champion out of 19 schools was Zoe Copetas!

Erika Dewey and Ellison Van Scoy also had individual pieces recognized as "Best of Round" winners. Out of nearly 100 8th grade students, MJHS student Monroe Nichols took home the 8th grade champion trophy and Ana Eversole won best alternate.

All of these writers will move on to the regional competition in March.

Power of the Pen is Ohio's interscholastic creative writing program for middle schools. It is an award-winning educational enhancement program devoted to excellence in creative writing for 7th and 8th grade students.

Congratulations to all of our writing Warriors!
