This month is Student Achievement Month for Kiwanis, and this week, the club presented the Outstanding Community Service Award to Shannon Brady, a Mariemont Junior High School 7th grade student.
According to the Mariemont Junior High School Builders Club advisor Nicole Parr, Shannon Brady "has been a vital part of our Builders Club this school year and has blossomed into a leader for our club. No matter what the event, Shannon steps up to volunteer - her commitment has been outstanding! Shannon has attended almost all of the Builders Club events this year, assisting at the Warrior Run, Fairfax Fall Festival, Terrace Park PumpkinFest, Luminaria, Mariemont Elementary Carnival, Mariemont track meet, and the 6th grade MJHS open house. Added to that, Shannon and another club member took the initiative to design a t-shirt for us this year. I am so proud of Shannon and look forward to seeing her continue to spread her wings in the 8th grade."
The MJHS Builders Club has 30 active members, and in addition to the students volunteering collectively with many events and activities, they also pursued their own community service projects, through places of worship, with their families and within the Greater Cincinnati community. Kiwanis member Jeremy Gates works with the Builders Club and Stock Club at the junior high throughout the school year.
"We are so grateful for this positive relationship with have with the Mariemont Kiwanis and they have with our students," said Molly Connaughton, Mariemont Junior High School principal. "We take an opportunity like Builders Club, which gives students the chance to give back to community in a variety of ways, and we couple that with with annual school events like the annual Day of Service and we are giving our students a wonderful number of ways for them to get involved and give back."
Kiwanis is a global organization of member-volunteers who are dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time. The Kiwanis Club of Mariemont recognizes Mariemont City School District students throughout the month of May for outstanding community service. This local Kiwanis club donates $15,000 in scholarships each year to district students, sponsors numerous school events and student opportunities, as well as provides mentors throughout the year.
