Four Destination Imagination teams comprised of Mariemont City School District students placed at the state competition and qualified to participate in the Global Finals this year.
One elementary team, one junior high team (The Unidentified Flying Donuts) and two Mariemont High School teams (The Crummy Cookies and The Unjustifiers) all won the honor to compete at Globals, which takes place at the University of Tennessee.
The junior high team is led by Karen Christopher and Holly Reavill, and the elementary team is led by Matt Malafa and Kristen VanScoy.
This will be the fourth time attending Globals for The Unjustifiers and the third time for The Crummy Cookies. The Crummy Cookies team members include Alex Copetas, Abby Dodson, Abby Ewart, MJ Griesmer, Colton Urbanski, Zachary Weinland and Monica Wuertemberger. The Unjustifiers team members include Kayla Dewey, Will Henning, Daniel Keyes, Shannon Mathews, Nick McCarthy and Emery Shelley.
Global Finals takes place in the end of May and is a culminating event each year. According to the DI website, each May, more than 1,400 of the top-scoring DI teams from 45 U.S. states and 14 countries gather in Knoxville, Tennessee to showcase their innovative challenge solutions. More than 17,000 people attend the event each year.
