USING INFORMATION FROM THE WEB

HOW GOOD IS A WEB SITE?

     With so many Web pages, how can you tell the best sites?  How do you know whether the information is correct and up to date?  Here are a few hints to help you.find the best Web sites.  Just as you decide if a TV program is worth watching, you can choose Web sites that are worth visiting.

     1. Use the F.A.C.E. hints that you see on each computer.

     2. Find the author of the site, it can be a person, an organization, or a company. ______________________________ Would this author be knowledgeable on the subject?   Why?

     3. Look at the bottom of the site's homepage.  Is there a date when the site was last updated?  If so, what is the date?  _______________________________________________________

     4. Is the site easy to use?  Are there clear instructions?  Can you link easily?  Can you go back?  Is there a lot of advertising?

     5. Can you read and understand the information?  Is the vocabulary too difficult?

     6. Does the site ask for personal information?  If so, leave the site immediately.
