Writing

Writing is a district goal for this school year.  We will be spending class time on a daily basis in order to accomplish this goal for every child.  We have already written stories, short birthday letters, and poetry.  Stop by the hallway and you can view our beautiful dried apple wreaths that encircle your child's individual poem.

Each day we work through a mini lesson before our writing time begins.  Some mini lessons have centered on capital letters for names and at the beginning of sentences, end punctuation (period, question mark, and exclamation mark), and writing a beginning, middle, and end to a story.  We have also tried to improve upon how our letters touch the lines and to leave spaces between words.

Please encourage your child to write at home.  They love to write letters, possibly to out of town grandparents!  Many children are making books at home and bringing them to share in class.  We are very excited about poetry now, and the children are not afraid of it at all.  Experiment here with them, especially after a fun family outing!
