READING

Throughout the year, fourth graders are introduced to a variety of literary genres by reading selections in Traditions published by Houghton-Mifflin.

Students are assessed on reading and study skills at the end of each theme.  At times students will complete a project based on the theme completed.

Please encourage your child to read daily (about 15-30) minutes either aloud or silently.  The selection chosen might include a novel based on the current theme or another area of high interest for your child.  While occasionally your child may choose to read a magazine during this time, it is recommended that he/she not make it a habit.
