| You will work in a team
of 4 or 5 scientists to create your walking tour, Rainforest
Informational Guide and presentation for
government officials. Each member of your team will be assigned a
specific role. You will use the internet, library and classroom resources
to find information in your specific areas. Remember you are working
as a team for a very important cause (SAVING THE RAINFORESTS) and each
person must complete all of their required duties. Click on checklist
for information required of each assigned role.
RAINFOREST ROLES
-
Geography Expert
-
The geography expert is responsible for reporting on the locations,
climate, and characteristics of the rainforest. You will
describe all four layers of the rainforest in our walking tour. Make
sure you create word documents showing maps and the important
facts about rainforests. These word documents will be placed in
your Rainforest Informational Guide. You must also create signs giving the
characteristics of each layer of the rainforest. When giving
your presentation to the government officials, be ready to tell how
the destruction of rainforests will affect the entire world.
-
The Zoologist -
The zoology expert is responsible for researching the animals of the
rainforest. You must find at least 1 or 2 animals that live in
each layer of the rainforest. Make sure you create a word
document for each animal that you research. This document should
include a picture copied from the internet and a description of each
animal, its prey or predators, and its habitat. These documents
will be place in your Rainforest Informational Guide. You must also
create 3 dimensional animals for our classroom rainforest. Other
team members may help you in creating the animals. You may bring
some from home.
-
The Botanist
- The botany expert is responsible for researching the plants that can
be found in the rainforest. You must find at least 1 or 2 plants
from each layer. Create a word document for each plant and
include the layer it is found in, a picture copied from the internet,
and a description. These documents will be placed in your Rainforest
Informational Guide. You should be able to tell what important
role the plants play in the rainforest. You must also create 3
dimensional plants for our classroom rainforest. Other team
members may help you in creating the plants .
-
The
Anthropologist - This person is responsible for finding out about the people
who live in the tropical rainforests. What do they do to
survive? How do they live off the land? Make sure you
create a word document and copy pictures from the internet.
Include important facts about the indigenous people that live in the
rainforests. This information should be included in your classroom
rainforest and your Rainforest Informational Guide. Remember this should be in your own words. In
your presentation, tell why the indigenous people play an important
role in the survival of the rainforest.
-
The Economics
Expert - The economics expert is responsible for researching the
products that we use that come from the rainforest. Create a
word document and include pictures of the products and their origin
(you may bring in actual products that your team members may have at
home). These documents will be included in your Rainforest
Informational Guide. In your presentation, tell how the destruction of the
rainforests would affect our lives. Find out what school age children
can do to help save the rainforest?
PRESENTATION TO
GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS
-
After your team
has completed their research, you must prepare a group presentation
for the government officials. The officials are also interested
in saving our rainforests, but need your expertise. Remember they want you to convince
them that it is important to save and protect the Earth's rainforests. In order to complete this task, you must combine
all of your research and answer the question, "How would the
destruction of the rainforests affect the world?"
-
Your presentation
should be creative and inspiring. The presentation may be in the form of a newscast, skit, debate, and/or power point
presentation. All members of your team should be included in the
presentation.
