DESCRIPTION OF CLASSES

It is throughout the junior high school band experience that most band members develop a genuine enjoyment of playing their instruments and making music together. The physical and mental maturation of the students themselves, combined with the more frequent and consistent rehearsal schedule at the junior high level, work together to promote rapid development and progress for the members of the Mariemont Junior High School Band.

Seventh Grade Band meets during the first period of the school day (7:40 - 8:22). Students who participate in seventh grade band have two different participation options: they may elect to participate in band only or they may elect to participate in both band and chorus. Students who elect to participate in band only attend band every day. Since band and chorus both meet at first period of the school day, students who elect to participate in both band and chorus do so on a rotating type of schedule. These students attend band every Monday and Thursday, attend Chorus every Tuesday and Friday, and alternate classes on Wednesdays.

Eighth Grade Band meets during the second period of the school day (8:31 - 9:12). Eighth grade band members have the same two participation options as seventh grade band members, and follow the same type of schedule.

Although the seventh grade band members and eighth grade band members rehearse separately throughout the school year, they are combined into one junior high concert band when concert time rolls around. In order to do this, we have one combined rehearsal prior to each concert. This rehearsal usually takes place the morning of the concert (give or take a day or two), and lasts for the first two periods of the school day. This helps to put the finishing touches on the music for our performance.
