A Postural Screening Program will be conducted on Tuesday, February 27 and Wednesday, February 28, 2018 to detect possible spinal problems in child. The screening will help identify seventh grade (and new 8th grade) students with curvature of the spine called scoliosis or other possible spinal problems. Scoliosis affects one in every twenty persons. Two or three out of every hundred diagnosed with a spinal problem will require active treatment. The purpose of this program is to recognize the problem at its earliest stages so that the need for treatment can be determined.
The procedure for screening is a simple one in which the school nurse or trained examiner inspects the child’s posture as he or she stands and then bends forward. Screenings will be conducted during your child’s 6th or 7th bell class and boys and girls will be screened separately. If a postural problem is suspected, the child will be rechecked at a second screening by a nurse from the spine center. If further consultation is recommended, you will be notified by letter.
If your child is currently under active treatment for a postural problem or if you do not wish your child screened, please call the office at 272-7300 or email firstname.lastname@example.org by February 23, 2018.
Late Arrival / Early Dismissal Procedure: Parents please send a note to school with your student if they need to leave early for an appointment or other reason. Please remind your student to bring the note to the office upon arrival (prior to first bell class) where they will receive a pass to leave class early and wait at the office until you arrive. If this procedure is followed, your student will be sent outside to meet you upon your arrival. In place of a note to school you may email Mrs. Murray prior to 8:30 email@example.com
