Dear 8th Grade Parents and Guardians, On Tuesday, April 18, we hosted our 8th grade student kickoff for the Mariemont High School Intersession that the high school teachers and other members of our staff have been working on for over a year. Intersession will be offered next May to all 9th, 10th and 11th grade students in the 2017-18 school year. You may recall that Intersession is embedded in Destination 2026, which is the strategic plan to guide the instructional future of the Mariemont City School District. We all understand that learning cannot only happen in the classroom; in fact, the deepest learning often comes from experiences outside of the traditional school day. Intersession is the natural evolution from the experiential learning done through Explorations at the elementary schools and Expeditions at the junior high. Go to this link to find an electronic version of the Intersession guides that were distributed to the 8th graders this afternoon.
Please sit down with your student and look over the different opportunities available to them. Some of the courses have a cost associated with them while several are free of charge. We ask that your child choose four different courses in order of preference, in case some courses reach maximum capacity or are dropped due to lack of student interest. Please complete this process by going to this link ( and completing the hard copy on the back page of the Intersession guide that was given to your student today. Students must turn in the hard copy because this is the form that requires both student and parent signatures and we cannot proceed with scheduling Intersession without your approval. Both the online and the hardcopy form must be completed no later than Friday, April 28 and dropped off at the front office of the junior high. Please know that all decisions are final after this date. Other than the travel opportunities, all other payments will be made next school year. We are thrilled to be able to offer these life-changing experiences to our students. Mariemont High School Intersession is an opportunity for our students to explore their passions through inspiring courses, meaningful experienceships and exciting travel opportunities led by high school teachers and staff. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns regarding Intersession. Sincerely, Jim Renner, Principal Mariemont High School.
