Mary Sexton

Mary Sexton has taught at Mariemont Elementary for the past 16 years in grades four, five, and three respectively, as well as special education. She has previously taught in Syracuse, NY and Tucson, AZ. Mary is a graduate of Xavier University with a B.S. in Psychology. She went on to receive a Master’s Degree in Special Education and Elementary Education at the University of New Mexico. Teaching reading and writing has become a passion for Mary. She has extensive training in the area of literacy and is a member of several professional organizations including the Ohio Writing Project at Miami University. She has been a co-instructor of various writing courses at Miami University that are designed for teachers. Mary has attended the Summer Institute for the Teaching of Reading and Writing at Columbia University for the past several summers and hopes to return again soon. Mary is also very involved in math education. She has attended numerous classes and workshops and is a current member of the National Council for the Teaching of Mathematics (NCTM). She continually reviews and studies new approaches that will help kids develop number sense and enhance their overall understanding of mathematics. When Mary is not teaching, she is home with her husband, Richard, and her two daughters, Laura and Tricia. Mary Sexton is currently a 3rd Grade teacher at Mariemont Elementary.
