District Students Compete in Regional Science Fair, Head to State Competition

Reagan Gearhart, Sydney Bortz, Sadie Kohlman, Cindy Atkins, Heather Alexander, Lilly Sharp, Ella Willett, Porter Koehler, Ryan Herzig all enjoyed a great day at the expo.

This year, 14 scientists and engineers from the Mariemont City School District participated in the Southwest Ohio Science and Engineering Expo at the University of Cincinnati. Terrace Park Elementary students Sadie Kohlman, Ella Willett, Lilly Sharp, Ryan Herzig, Sydney Bortz, Reagan Gearhart and Porter Koehler, and Mariemont Elementary students Alex Nistor, Benner Rogers, Caroline Soller, Ella Newman, Charlotte Hagen, Kyle Liu and Sophia Hunt were selected to participate in this regional competition. 

"I am proud of all of our students; they did such an incredible job representing the school district as well as the fields of science and engineering," said Heather Alexander, Terrace Park Elementary teacher and Expo Advisory Council member. "It was an amazing day and we appreciate and recognize the hard work these students put into their projects." 

Terrace Park Elementary students Lilly Sharp, Sydney Bortz, Reagan Gearhart and Porter Koehler each recieved $25 in cash awards. Mariemont Elementary students Alex Nistor and Benner Rogers each won an engineering award of $25, provided by GE Aviation. Terrace Park Elementary student Ryan Herzig earned a $25 UCRI Award in Microbiology, a $100 Soybean Council Bioscience Award and a Broadcom Masters invitation to participate in the Broadcom Masters Competition in Washington, D.C. this fall. 

State qualifiers were Lilly Sharp and Ryan Herzig, who will compete in Columbus in May.
