The MHS Social Studies Department offers both College Preparatory as well as 3 Advanced Placement level courses. The department also boasts interesting electives such as Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, Law and Criminal Justice, and Geography.


Social Studies Department Program Goals


1. The program will encourage the learner to become a lifelong student in the social studies realm.

2. The program will enable the learner to understand and appreciate interactions among cultures.

3. The program will enable the learner to understand and appreciate differences in a multicultural society.

4. The program will equip the learner to investigate, to predict, and to analyze the outcomes of historical and current events.

5. The program will enable the learner to use critical thinking skills in order to draw valid conclusions from data.

6. The program will enable learners to use technology to research and apply background information to support classroom studies.

7. The program will enable the learner to demonstrate knowledge of the physical world around us to include local, state, national and world geography.

8. The program will enable students to understand governments and appreciate the responsibilities of American Citizenship.

9. The program will enable students to understand principles and applications of economics.
