Description: Students in this course learn the basics of the
visual arts through the Elements and Principles of Design.
Hands-on activities include the use of charcoal, scratchboard,
prisma pencil, oil pastel, tempera, watercolor and collage.
Work will be individualized to meet student ability levels and
future intent. Students will learn how to critique their
assignments.

Description: Students will have the opportunity to experience a
variety of media and the freedom to develop a personal style.
Acrylic painting, printmaking, surface design, relief sculpture, and
mixed media will be explored. Various art techniques, styles,
and cultures will be incorporated in the projects. Students will
expand their ideas as they learn new media.

Description: Students develop and
express original ideas and experiences through a variety of drawing
materials. Class will offer in-depth study of drawing
techniques and media while encouraging the development of a personal
style. Media will include graphite, colored pencil, charcoal,
pastel, ink wash and mixed media. The class is a studio
course. Some works may be generated through site visits.

Description: In-depth study of
graphics and media used by professionals. Media will include
marker renderings, gouache, press-type, ink, watercolor, dyes, and
colored pencil. Students will study type, illustration,
designing, advertising, and corporate identity. There will be
a unit using computers for designing and type.

designed to teach the basics of wireworking. Students will use
different types of wire to construct free-standing relief and 3-D
sculpture, mobiles, and ornaments. Beads, glass, stones and
shells will be used fro embellishment.

Description: This course gives
advanced students a chance to expand areas of interest and develop
portfolios. Students will plan a group of projects to complete
each quarter. Through self-directed investigation, these
projects will enhance the curriculum currently being followed in
other advanced sections, or be totally independent. Students
in grades 10 & 11, may also prepare for AP Studio Art by taking this
class.

Studio Art |

Course Credit: 1 credit, 5 periods/week,
full year, weighted grade
Description: This is an accelerated
art studio class that corresponds to the National Advanced Placement
curriculum. This course is intended to develop depth as well
as breadth in the student portfolio. College credit may be
earned. Work will include color theory, design, drawing,
painting, relief and graphic design. Students will also
complete a series of projects that explore a theme. There will
be both in-class and homework assignments. Professional slides
will be required each year to assess progress and document work
completed. Students will be responsible for this process.
Students may prepare for this class by taking Studio Art in the
10th. or 11th. grade year and as many other art classes as possible.
