First Quarter Freshman & New Member Paper
Rehearsal Ettiquette
¯ Research and Reference SIX (6) difference sources (websites / books / journal articles / etc.). You must use a VARIETY of source TYPES. They cannot ALL be websites.
¯ Find 10 different “Rules” for Rehearsal Etiquette. (Google: Orchestral Rehearsal Etiquette) Don’t shy away from sources that seem to pertain to other instrumentation. There are good sites written by horn and woodwind players with applicable and transferable CONCEPTS. Read everything you see for ideas. Do your OWN research. There will be NO second chances for students who cut and paste from the Internet. THIS MUST BE your writing.
¯ Write a paper that includes:
Ø Title Page – This includes Title of your paper, your name, date, Name of the Class, My Name
Ø Introduction
Ø Body - - This should be a paragraph (minimum of 6 sentences – or 50 words per paragraph) for each Rule of Etiquette. That is TEN paragraphs in the BODY. In each paragraph, describe the rule, describe why it is pertinent to our orchestra rehearsals, discuss how you are personally doing with regard to that rule, and if you can improve, explain how (trust me you can improve).
Ø Conclusion – pertinence and applicability to our class. Discuss overall benefit and purpose of Rehearsal Rules and Etiquette, etc.
Ø Works Cited / Bibliography (websites must be completely typed out with all paths / etc.) These do not have to be in MLA or Chicago or any other reference style. But I DO NEED Titles, authors, page numbers, websites, Journal Name, volume. There should be some uniformity to the listing - alphabetical or something.
¯ This assignment, in conjunction with your playing tests, is worth 30% of your grade during 1st quarter. I would take it seriously. It should end up being 700-800 words EXCLUDING the bibliography. ALL PAGES MUST BE NUMBERED
¯ EXAMS MUST BE turned in to Ms. Khamis – BEFORE class time on Wednesday, OCTOBER 22. After 2:00 PM – NO exams will be accepted. You have 6 Weeks to do the exam.
