STRINGS EXTRAVAGANZA

This year, the strings department will be giving a concert separate from the Band and Chorus in February.

This change has come about for several reasons.

·        It breaks up the format of the concerts for parents and students.  Historically, every concert has been the same:  Chorus, Strings, Band.  Having a separate concert just once a year will provide the opportunity for parents of all groups to experience a different type of concert from each group with varied form and repertoire.

·        Band, Strings and Chorus concerts will have the time to allow for different types of performances.  Each group, strings included, will be able to feature solo & ensemble performances in addition to large group.

·        With added time just for strings (and more time for band and chorus at their concert), we can feature special guests and artists.  Our guest artist for the FEB 6th concert is Orieta Dado, an Associate Violinist for the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and a private instructor for several of our Mariemont Students.

·        This concert allows for younger strings students to participate at the SAME concert as the older strings students.  Even though we have tried to incorporate this in the past at our winter concert, it is usually hectic with so many high school students performing from all three areas of our music department.  Our younger strings students can now participate and be mentored by our more seasoned players without burdening the performances of the other HS groups (in terms of time allotted for strings during the concert, facility space and transition issues).  It also provides for our young strings students to be inspired for their future as strings students in our district.  It gives them something to strive for in terms of being able to play with the High School now and later.  Our High School students are WONDERFUL at taking them under their wing and really building them up.
