Projects

These are the projects we will do throughout the year:

Straw Polyhedra- December

The geometry students build a tetrahedra from straws and fishing line. The octohedron, hexahedron, icosohedron, and dodecahedron can be built for extra credit.

Dilations and Contractions- January

Using graph paper of varying sizes, the classes recreate Far Side Comics by dilations and contractions. Students use the principles of similar figures to enlarge and reduce pictures.

Pi Day- March 14

The geometry classes celebrate Pi Day Celebration with a pi reciting contest and a lot of pie eating. Yummy!

Architecture Project- May

The classes divide into groups of "architects". Using 50 index cards and one roll of tape, each group designs and builds a structure that must meet certain specifications. After the structures are completed, a contest is held to decide the "strongest" building.
