The forms that must be completee:

By not printing all those pages, many trees will live to provide shade and oxygen another day.

What is a "pool player"?  A pool player is a player that is being groomed to move up to varsity, but is still getting playing time and perhaps confidence on the Junior Varsity team.  He practices with the Varsity squad.  He dresses (he may have different jerseys & numbers) and is eligible to play in both games (up to 3 halves per day - stepping onto the field is considered playing in a half).  He may be held out of one half in a JV game so that he has two eligible halves for the Varsity game.  Coach wants all players and parents to know that playing Pool is very demanding on a player's schedule.  Game day might start at 4:15 (for a JV 5:00 game) and end at 9:30 pm (getting off the bus from a Varsity game).  SCHOOL COMES FIRST.  If the schedule's demands are interfering with school, talk to the coach.
Will my player be cut?  Mariemont Soccer has a "no cut policy... if they show they want to play".  The coaches believe that many of these young men are still developing both physically and mentally, so it's not right to cut them before they develop into the man that they will become.  If a player shows that he wants to play, which is much more than just showing up, he will be afforded a place on the team.  Mr. Nerl  works to add additional games to the JV schedule so that all JV players get to play and develop their skills.
Why shouldn't a parent contact the Coach about their player's schedule?  Because the coach will tell you to have the player call him.  Players are encouraged to conduct their business directly with the coach.  JV players contact Coach Vanags.  Pool and Varsity players contact coach Mehl.  This is a policy that helps young men learn how to speak with adults.  It allows players to take responsibility for their own behavior, even if they are going to miss an event "because their mom said so".
How do I complain about a coach?  Parents and/or players are expected to take up issues directly with the coach FIRST.  If an issue can not be resolved with the coach, then it may be taken to Mr. Tom Nerl, Athletic Director for Mariemont Schools.  The coaching staff is committed to communicating their evaluations with the player.  A player has the right to know how the coach thinks they are playing and what they need to do to play more.  The coaches will NOT ADDRESS PLAYING TIME WITH A PARENT.  The coaches have expectations of their players which include helping the team to win.  A player may be expected to know the plays or set a better example or show an ability to listen or be more of a team player, not just play hard soccer.
What if my issue is really serious, like abuse?  If the issue is of serious nature with a coach, like abuse, it is appropriate to go to Mr. Tom Nerl, the Athletic Director for Mariemont Schools.  You should know that the coach will probably end up in the discussion as Mr. Nerl will want to hear both sides of the issue.
Why are shin guards such an issue this year?  The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) has embarked on a program to protect the players.  This includes clearer rules on shin guards.  Referees have been instructed to check shin guards closely.  They must be age and size appropriate, not altered to decrease protection, covered by stockings and worn with bottom edge no higher than 2 inches above the ankle.  New shin guards should display a tag certified by NOCSAE.  This tag should be left on the equipment to demonstrate it's compliance.
Why do we have to buy socks?  Mariemont High School supplies jerseys, shorts, balls, goals, equipment and backpack bags with the help of the Mariemont Boosters (by policy, the Boosters will not purchase clothing).  Players are expected to purchase socks, practice tee-shirts, shoes, cups and shin guards.  The coach makes a volume purchase from Soccer Village for anyone on the team.  You can participate in this volume purchase and have socks delivered to Mariemont or you can go to Soccer Village and buy your own.  The Warriors wear Blue Socks with 3 white stripes for away games and White socks with 3 blue stripes for home games.  You'll need enough to keep your equipment manager out of the laundry room every day.  Coach may also have coupons for players to use.
Practice T-Shirts?  When everyone wears the same shirt, the team looks sharp.  Pennies (colored mesh vests worn over the shirt) discern teams in scrimmages.  The shirts are white with a Mariemont Soccer logo.  They will be worn out through practice and school wear.  Order enough that you don't have to wash every day.  Coach makes a volume purchase, see coach Mehl if you need more.
