A
Works Cited page should always be found at the end of any paper if you have used
resources outside your own brain! A Works Cited page provides the information
necessary for a reader to locate and be able to read any sources you refer to in
your paper. Each source you quote from or use must appear in the Works Cited
list; in the same way, each entry in the Works Cited list must be named in your
text.
In Mariemont School District,
internal citations are used to refer to sources within the text of your
paper.
Basic Rules
for Works Cited pages: (pp. 142-147)
- Author’s names are
inverted (last name first followed by a comma: Brown, Ronald.
- If a work has more than one
author, invert only the first author’s name, follow it with a
comma, then continue listing the rest of the authors: Brown,
Ronald, and Linda Smith.
- Alphabetize your
sources by the authors’ last names. If no author is given for a
particular work, alphabetize by the title of the work. See sample
Works Cited page at this web link.
- The first line of each
entry in your list should be flush left. Following lines should be
indented one-half inch (or 5 spaces). This is known as a "hanging
indent".
- All references should be
double-spaced.
