Course Objectives

Students will demonstrate a basic knowledge of specific anatomical organs of the body (eye, ear, tooth, & skin), as well as prevention of disease and injury.

*

 Students will demonstrate knowledge of the effects of tobacco, alcohol, and drugs of abuse.

 *

 Students will demonstrate knowledge of the characteristics of positive and negative self-esteem.

 *

 Students will demonstrate knowledge of decision making and goal setting. 

 *

 Students will demonstrate knowledge of the field of consumerism and advertising

*

 Students will demonstrate knowledge of health quackery.

*

 Students will demonstrate knowledge of mental and eating disorders.

Grading
 
The students health grade will be determined by an accumulation of the following:
  • Test Scores - there will be 4-6 100 point tests, depending on how much information we cover during the quarter.
  • Quiz Scores - there will be both announced and unannounced quizzes, worth 10-25 points, depending on the unit.
  • Extra Credit - the students have unlimited opportunities for extra credit.  This can include any work (i.e. current event articles, reports, research, posters, presentations, etc. . . ) covering a health-related topic.
